FICO score reason code · Code 27

“Too few accounts currently paid as agreed” — Decoded.

That line on your denial letter isn’t an insult — it’s a standard reason code, and it’s telling you exactly which lever moved against you. Here’s what it actually says about your file, in plain English.

The short answer

“Too few accounts currently paid as agreed” means: Not enough of your accounts are currently reporting clean, on-time status — either the file is thin or delinquent accounts outnumber the good ones. It does not mean: You need more accounts — if it appears alongside delinquency codes, the driver is the negative accounts, and adding accounts will not outrun bad marks. The 800 Club’s team turns this reason into a plan on a free strategy call.

Lever: Payment History Service Case — record-level work — professional review territory

What It Actually Means

Not enough of your accounts are currently reporting clean, on-time status — either the file is thin or delinquent accounts outnumber the good ones.

What It Does NOT Mean

It does not mean you need more accounts — if it appears alongside delinquency codes, the driver is the negative accounts, and adding accounts will not outrun bad marks. Numbering note: 27 is the TransUnion number; Equifax/Experian use code 19 for the same statement, while TransUnion code 19 means 'Date of last inquiry too recent' (see code 08). Do not confuse it with the far more benign Equifax/Experian code 31, 'Too few accounts with recent payment information'.

The Lever It Points At: Payment History

The heaviest factor there is. A late mark is a record, not a balance — bringing the account current stops new damage, but the record itself stays until it’s reviewed, disputed where inaccurate, or ages off. This is the territory where professional record work earns its keep.

The Same Reason, Other Wordings

Lenders and bureaus phrase this one differently letter to letter. If yours says any of these, this is the page:

  • Number of accounts paid as agreed is too low”
  • Too few accounts currently paid as agreed (code 19, Equifax/Experian)”
